Why not extend your business trip and discover the city?

Are you on a business trip to Barcelona and want to explore the city of Barcelona in your free time? We give you tips for an entertaining stay in the city.

Barcelona, located directly by the sea, is always reason enough to hang on for a few more days. In this way you can “take away” the lifestyle and the endless range of culinary delights, leisure activities and the hospitality of the Catalans. It is worthwhile to either look at one of the many sights – it is best to book the tickets online in advance so that you do not stand in front of the sign “we are fully booked”. Or to do the big Barcelona walk. A casual stroll through the small streets around Santa Caterina Market, Palau de la Música Catalana and Plaça d’Antoni Maura is recommended. There are also several beautiful parks in Barcelona that are worth visiting. Primarily are Park Güell and Parc de la Ciutadella.

Barcelona Bars & Restaurants

Do you like to travel with food and like to be with people? A typical place full of Catalan mentality, hustle, bustle, and coziness is the Mercat de la Boqueria, the food market on the edge of La Rambla. There is everything here: fresh fish, delicious fruit, freshly squeezed juices – and at the far left the Bar Central. Granted, it’s noisy here, you must wait for your seat, and you can’t reserve. And if the staff suspect you’re a tourist, they’ll try to direct you to the “same” restaurant around the corner. But don’t do it! Wait and insist on a table in the hall at the bar.

#2 Leisure Tips

Barcelona Beach

The extensive beach of Barcelona shines with white sand and clean water – walk barefoot on the beach from the Pez Vela restaurant to Platja de Sant Sebastià, Platja de Sant Miquel and Platja de la Barceloneta. A walk of about an hour and you feel like you are on vacation. Afterwards, the Carpe Diem Lounge Club entices with large seating and cushion combinations to relax, people watch and meet new people.

Art and culture

Carlos Ruiz Zafón is one of Spain’s most famous novelists of his time. A native Catalan born in Barcelona in 1964, Ruiz Zafón has written nine novels to date, some written for adults and others for young audiences. Zafóns most internationally acclaimed book is “The Shadow of the Wind“, or in Spanish “La Sombra del Viento”, which was published in 2001. Carlos Ruiz Zafón also authors short stories.

Carlos Ruiz Zafóns quote about Barcelona:

“The touching history is always present in Barcelona. I see cities as organisms, as living creatures. For me, Madrid is a man and Barcelona is a woman. And it is a very vain woman.”

  1. Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Familia is an absolute must in Barcelona. The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, briefly known as the Sagrada Familia, is a Roman Catholic church in the Spanish city of Barcelona. Its construction has not yet been completed, the building history is extremely interesting, and it is already one of the most exotic and unusual buildings in the world and attracts millions of tourists. The completion of the basilica is planned for the year 2026, the 100th anniversary of the death of the architect Antoni Gaudi. Be sure to purchase tickets in advance to visit. Tickets can also only be purchased online.
  2. Parc Güell
Parc Güell, designed by Antoni Gaudi between 1900 and 1914, is mentioned several times in the novel “The Shadow of the Wind” by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. The incredibly beautiful park is decorated with Gaudi’s well-known patterns and mosaics at every corner and leaves an almost unreal, surreal impression on its visitors. The view from the large platform over Barcelona is breathtaking! If you want, you can climb even higher – and it’s worth the effort here, too.
  3. Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya / Font magica
The museum illuminates the history of Barcelona and Catalonia in different languages in a very pleasant and vivid way, always with a focus on the artistic evolution of the city. The National Art Museum of Catalonia is located above the Placa d’Espanya. It is particularly beautiful here in the evening hours, just before the sun goes down. It’s the best of all on Saturday evening: with live music, you can watch both the famous, illuminated fountains (Font magica) and the incredible sunset over Parc Güell, especially from the top staircase directly in front of the museum. Late July and August are best for this because then the sun is most favorable.
